Why do you think that 212*F is ideal? There are many other engines that that each have their own designed operating range. I kept my thermostat in the stock location. To make sure heater is hot and ECU is going into closed loop correctly. I believe your normal temperature should not require much use of the fans to maintain it.I'm completely blown away by this thread. In other words for a steady load it should not fluctuate excessively. Your temperature then will then fluctuate based on loading in regard to themostat operation alone. Your thermostat on the other hand will open at a certain temperature and then stay open. They start on a rising temp that maybe should not be occurring and they then drive that temp down at which point they shut off only to cycle once more. If you see your temp gauge fluctuate this may be an indication of fan cycling. Typically they will come on at some predetermined temp and then go off at another temp in such a way that they have a deadband to work within. If they are constantly running when under a steady load in moderate temps then there may be something to be concerned with. The real importance of the fans is their necessity. You could have had a 'bubble' in the system that you now have gotten rid of. Need to hit up the dealership and have them check my temps and fans. So what puzzled me was that i removed only 1 and 1/4 gallon of coolant from the motor and installed the above quantity. Mixed with 1 bottle of redline water wetter. I poured 1 bottle of antifreze coolant and 1 gallon of distilled water. USMCgetsome wrote: i agree with above post. While you always should initially trust your indication you should always verify it if you have any doubts about its veracity. So basically if the poster is worried and he seemed to be enough to take some measures to check it, then he should verify his indication. My guess is his is normal, but that is simply my guess since I do not have physical access to his car. If I had any doubts at all, I would not bother with thinking it is correct because someone who has not even seen my car says so, I would prove it which is actually very simple to do. This may not be any more of a benefit then having a high/low/normal set of lights They are designed to give a certain reading at whatever is the norm.

It isn't even unusual for a quality car to have multiple sensors, one of which is the one you see the results of and often that one is the less sophisticated and least accurate of the bunch since it is not critical.Īnother factor comes into play with these gauges and it is they are not linear. They may cost but they eliminate much of the reasons stock sensors are less than ideal. That is one reason why many go to a water hose adapter and put in after market sensors. Depending on the type of sensor it can be high resistance in the cable to it, the sensor itself, a fouled sensor from contaminates which acts to insulate it, even a faulty design of the sensor and its location. There are many things that can make a temp sensor in a car give less than accurate readings. Slow to react gauges can indicate a sensor essentially running dry and giving an indication of the temp of the mounting device. If the temp readings are slow to react to overheating conditions then that is an indication that the readings may not be accurate.

Don't worry about it.My temp is fine his may not be. Tollboothwilley wrote:G35's are not known to have issues with temp readings, although the temp readings have been generally slow to react to overheating conditions sometimes. The importance of that is it can indicate how well the rest of the system is functioning (how necessary is the fan in maintaining normal temps in moderate temperatures under steady load).ĭid you ever get an accurate temp reading so you can match it with the gauge? To me your gauge position looks fairly normal but I have seen gauges way off. You replaced the thermostat and that should not cycle, but I have seen electric fans that would come on and drive the temperature down and cause cycles.

At steady loading the temperture should stay somewhat steady as well unless something else enters into the picture. The one thing to also watch is temperature cycling. I forget if your has an electric fan but make sure it does come on. Remember to check the outside of the radiator as well. I'll get a pic of it today at running temps and it's been in the high 70's and mid 80's. Anything else i should do? It is still basically in the same position it was before? So i guess it normal. Filled with 50/50 and 1 bottle of redline water wetter. Removed and Replaced thermostat and housing.
